A Busy Day At The ASC

Congratulations students, the first day of the new semester has happened and miraculously we have Survived!!! WELL DONE. With that said, the ASC has been a busy place the last two days. The days have been spent trying to overcome learning new ways to be identified with words like net ids and new passwords. For those of you who have been successful in discovering your new identity, hats off to you. For those of you who are struggling, facing fear and the unknown; just know that there is help and we are willing to do all that is needed to help you!! Remember, just ask. Now that classes are moving beyond the syllabi stage, please pay attention to the instructor and head their words of wisdom. At any given time, ask questions, especially when it comes to the new ideas and concepts with MyMathLab. It is always a work in progress and often leads to many headaches for both student and professor. My advice is: read it slowly, pay attention to small details, and do not forgot those passwords. Make them simple and easy to remember - as they will be you new best friends your entire educational career. I just wanted to give a shout out to all those working the ASC during this busy time - as we can only be in place a time, take time to work with us much as possible. Know what you need exactly, as that knowledge makes our lives a bit easier. Also, if you DO NOT ask questions or explain clearly, we cannot help; and we often end up just as frustrated as you. Advice again, let us ask questions before you go into a long explanation of what you need, as we have done this a time or two. Keep in mind: know your MyInfo password, your student id # with and without the dash; as both are equally important, know your schedule, even if you do not know that said location, and know your professor(s) name - it helps tremendously. Final thoughts for today, again we are only tutors and CANNOT do your homework for you. We CANNOT know everything that the professors say in class, nor are we mind readers. However, we are words of wisdom, encouragement, full of prior knowledge and constantly learning at that, and above all we are wonderful listeners. We too have faced the world of full-time student, jobs, juggling family, and the like; we have KIND OF mastered the circus world in which you have just stepped into - traditional student or non-traditional. We truly understand just how big this world and grasp the idea of being shark bait in the big ocean called university life. Breathe often, have moments with friends, find a favorite spot on campus, stop in for free cookies, learn the campus, and most of all learn well!! Have fun learning - as life is ALWAYS teaching us new lessons on a daily basis.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Heather, and I am a professional tutor. I specialize, in English, Writing, and History. I have a Bachelors in English and History and a Masters in Education with a Specialization in Library media and Communications (which means I know all the new 21st Century skills). I intend to make this blog, a place of advice and help with writing, facts, and a healthy dose of nerdiness. Yes, I know it is not a "real" word; however, it describes my world. I have created a few new things: Prezi, Pathbrite, and this advice-filled blog. Come by often to read useless and helpful knowledge on things like proper grammar, the mechanics of good writing, and other facts about the English language, which you many find confusing.Comments are welcome, preferred, and hopefully will be answered in a timely manner. This blog is not just dedicated to Writing: I will also included some great Math, Sciences, and History awesomeness!! As a tutor I am a resource - first connection after the class ends and questions creep in and lead to fear. I am here to offer clarity, take away the fear, and help build bridges to success. I work with the Academic Support Center at Montana State University Billings. With that said, we are bringing technology, social media, and the ideas of the 21st Century world directly to you. May this blog, the other linked websites, and a little tidbits of advice be helpful to you at any given moment!!!! Heather~
